Ad-hoc Group (number icon)

  • Created when you pick users individually and send a message.

  • The avatar shows the member count (e.g., 80).

  • Static membership: if a new student joins the class later, they won’t be added automatically—you must create a new group.

  • Best for short-term or targeted threads (a small project team, a few parents, specific staff).

How to create: Messages → Send message to user → Select recipients one by one → Write message Send.

Class Group (people icon)

  • Created via “Send message to group (specific class)”.

  • The conversation is linked to the class roster.

  • Automatic membership: when students jointhe class, they’re added automatically.

  • Ideal for ongoing class announcements, homework reminders, weekly plans, and general updates.

How to create: Messages → Send message to group (specific class) → Choose the class →  Write message Send.

Which should I use?

  • Choose Class Group for anything class-wide and continuous—no manual updates and no missed messages.

  • Choose Ad-hoc when you need a limited audience or a temporary conversation.
